PDVSA HVM Racing and driver E.J. Viso welcomed San Francisco Giant shortstop Omar Vizquel to the Infineon Speedway in Sonoma, California on Friday.
Vizquel, an 11-time Gold Glove Award winner, grew up in the same city of Caracas, Venezuela as did PDVSA HVM Racing pilot Viso. It is there where they formed their friendship.
“Omar is a champion baseball player and he’s well respected, not only in our country, but around the world,” explained Viso. We met back in our hometown, and I’m honored that he wanted to come out to the track and learn more about HVM Racing and the IndyCar Series.
“I can’t think of a better track for him to come and visit,” continued Viso. “Today was a great day for Omar to be up close and feel the excitement of the series and HVM Racing. It’s an honor for me and our team to have him here.”
Vizquel arrived at the track Friday morning and spent time with the team and Viso. He took part in viewing the practice sessions from the team’s pit area before leaving to AT&T Park where he will participate in Friday night’s against the San Diego Padres.
“This is amazing,” said Viquel. “It has always been one of my dreams to attend an IndyCar Series race and try to see everything up close. I know E.J. and he has helped make this dream come true.”
“Being in the pits and watching everything develop was great. It’s even more exciting when you watch it so close. It seems really demanding and takes a lot of responsibility. E.J. has taken the challenge well.”
