HVM Racing PEAK Antifreeze and Motor Oil Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma County Fast Facts:
This weekend HVM Racing makes their debut at the Infineon Raceway during Sunday’s Peak Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma County.
The trip to Sonoma will be a homecoming for HVM Racing Lead Engineer Michael Cannon. It is here where Cannon, 46, learned and mastered his craft as one of the most intelligent minds in the IndyCar Series garage today. Cannon was one of the founding members of Genoa Racing and helped lead that team from its Marin County roots.
The countdown to 200 begins. PDVSA HVM Racing will be making their 198th career open wheel racing start this weekend and will reach the 200 plateau at Chicagoland Speedway.
Viso comes to Infineon trailing Graham Rahal by one point for fourth in the Bombardier Learjet Rookie Standings and for 17th in the overall IndyCar Series championship.

“I was 27 years old when I moved to that part of California and just fell in love with it. I went to work with Genoa Racing and was fortunate enough to be a part of the beginning of that team. It was a great time, and like anyone who is young, I was just as ambitious as anyone in the racing world. I wanted to learn as much as possible and win as much as possible. California was a great place to do that.
“Going back there this is exciting for me. I just love the area. It’s a beautiful part of the world, and it’s going to be enjoyable to be back there. The smell of the ocean air, the eucalyptus trees, the rosemary, it is all just beautiful scenery. The track is nestled right in all of it. It just fits in perfect.
“We tested there last week and I think it went well. It was really our first time to test on a road course this season, and that gave us an opportunity to get ahead. E.J. (Viso) was fast and near the top of the time sheets. I’m confident that we can build on top of that and have a good race on Sunday.”
“Looking at the rest of the schedule, we don’t have many events left. There are two more races after this weekend that count for points and I want to gain as many as possible. I think Infineon is going to be a great opportunity for us. I love the road courses and we were fast in our test.
“The next two races are both great chances for us to gain momentum for the PDVSA HVM Racing team in 2009. We are very comfortable at the road and street events. Our confidence is pretty high right now and we’re looking forward to this weekend and next.”
