HVM Racing Rexall Edmonton Indy Race Report:

Venue: Edmonton City Centre Raceway, 1.973-mile road course, Edmonton, Alberta.
Starting Position: 20
Finishing Position: 15
Notes:

HVM Racing finished 15th in Saturday’s Rexall Edmonton Indy after a penalty ruined their chances of a better finish.

Starting the event in the 20th position, driver E.J. Viso quickly moved into the 16th position after a quick start on lap one.  Viso and the team continued to make progress in the 92-lap race and moved into 14th when the first caution came out on lap 18.  After a pit stop for fuel and tires, the team ran their best segments of the race.  Completing passes on a very tough course, Viso positioned the No. 33 PDVSA HVM Racing Honda in the 10th position by lap 39.

The team made their last planned fuel stop on lap 48 and was racing back to the front when Viso and the lapped car of Graham Rahal made contact.  Viso was positioning to overtake another car for position when his car slid into the side of Rahal.  IndyCar officials penalized HVM Racing 15 seconds on the following restart, ending their opportunity for a top-five finish.

Instead, the team fought from 18th to finish 15th in the final 25 laps of the race.  Scott Dixon won the event as HVM Racing now takes a weekend off from competition before returning August 9th for events at the Kentucky Speedway.

Comments from HVM Racing Owner Keith Wiggins after Saturday’s Rexall Edmonton Indy:

“We were having a pretty good run.  It’s unfortunate that another penalty cost us a good result.”

Comments from HVM Racing Driver E.J. Viso after Saturday’s Rexall Edmonton Indy:

“It’s pretty tough when you have to restart in the back after you pit.  There is a lot more risk for something to happen.  I was trying to overtake for position, and maybe I didn’t brake soon enough in the turn. The car slid into the side of Graham.  I feel bad for him and his team.  It’s tough racing and things happen.  Overall, I think we had a chance of a good finish before that happened.”
