HVM RACING’S E.J. VISO QUALIFIES FOR THE Indianapolis, IN (May 17, 2008) – HVM’s E.J. Viso qualified for the 92nd running of the Indy 500 today on his first attempt with an average speed of 220.356 mph. This puts him 26th out of the 37 cars attempting to make the grid for the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” Memorial Day weekend at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. After making contact with the SAFER barrier in yesterday’s practice, the HVM team spent much of yesterday getting the car ready for today’s qualification. They didn’t have too much work to do and finished the car by 8:00 pm last night.
E.J. was 5th in line today for qualifying and as the 4th driver (Oriol Servia) was completing his run, raindrops started to fall on the front stretch and the track went yellow until the weather passed. E.J. remained in the car, safely enclosed underneath the car cover, waiting in the qualifying line while sprinkles fell for 10-15 minutes. Fortunately the weather cleared without much delay and E.J. made his first attempt, which was good enough to make the field. E.J. Viso: “Well, the team did a great job putting the car back together and in perfect condition. The crash yesterday didn’t affect my performance today, I’m mentally stronger than that and it didn’t affect my confidence today. Of course we would have liked to be quicker today but the most important thing is that we made Keith Wiggins, Team Owner: “We came here with realistic but optimistic expectations. Of course, having been able to do 222 our first week, we were hoping to be a bit faster for qualifying today. However, circumstances have changed as they do here and after the incident yesterday we have to remember our original objective of making the field. Our main focus now is to have a good result on the 25th of May.” PR Contact: Aislinn Miller amiller@hvminc.net
